WASHINGTON (ABC7) — A grandmother and mother of four has been identified as the woman who was doused with gasoline and set on fire while attempting to stop a fight last weekend in Southeast Washington.
Stephanie Chase-Wheeler suffered third-degree burns and is recovering from surgery, according to a release from the office of councilmember Vincent Gray.
She was initially transported to an area hospital in critical but stable condition.
Chase-Wheeler was set on fire while breaking up an altercation on Oct. 28 in the 200 block of 37th Street, SE.
An investigation determined that a suspect poured gasoline on Chase-Wheeler, then lit her on fire before leaving the area.
