SUITLAND, Md. (ABC7) — Dr. John Cherry, founder of From the Heart Church Ministries, Inc. in Suitland, has died from complications suffered from a recent procedure, according to a statement from the Office of the Episcopal Pastor.
Cherry, 79, founded the church in 1981 and used his business savvy to develop the church from a small storefront church to a multi-million dollar, worldwide ministry, according to the statement.
A memorial service for Cherry will take place at From the Heart Church Ministries, Inc. at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
The Office of the Episcopal Pastor released a statement that read in part:
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Dr. John A. Cherry, who left this life and entered into an eternal rest on February 16, 2019 at the age of 79. His death was a result of major complications that he suffered during a recent exploratory procedure.
Dr. Cherry was the founder of From the Heart Church Ministries, Inc., which he started in 1981 with the unwavering help and support of his loving wife, Rev. Diana P. Cherry. As a result of Dr. Cherry's ministry, over 51,000 people gave their lives to the Lord Jesus Christ at the church that he pastored from 1981 to 2006.
