About 1,000 students out of Stafford High School's nearly 2,100 student body population are out due to " flu-like/gastrointestinal symptoms," according to the school system.

Stafford County Public Schools said their health services team is currently working with the health department to find out more about this "illness."

As of Friday, the high school canceled all activities through Sunday.

"Due to the high number of student and staff illnesses reported this week, all Stafford High School activities and athletics scheduled through Sunday, October 23, are canceled. We will reassess conditions on Monday and provide you with further information," the high school announced to its school community.

7News reached out to the Rappahannock Area Health District regarding the matter and they told us that they are aware of the situation at Stafford High.
