Flooding in the DMV area leads to a day full of water rescues

Pete Piringer/Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service

First responders throughout Maryland and Virginia made multiple water rescues Saturday after days of record rainfall have led to flooding and road outages.

Fairfax County had at least four, including at the intersection of Chapel Road and Cold Point Road in Clifton, Fairfax Station Road at Moon Patterns Trail, the intersection of Woodburn Road and Robey Avenue, and Old Courthouse Road and Belsey Road. No injuries were reported.

"PLEASE do not drive around barriers!!" Fairfax Fire and Rescue said in a tweet, adding the hashtag #TurnAroundDontDrown.

In Montgomery County, several people were pulled from stranded vehicles near Brighton Dam Road, portions of which were closed. A tweeted photo from Montgomery County public information officer Pete Piringer showed a child being carried away from the water.

"EMS says everybody ok," Piringer tweeted.
