A number of local governments have been shut down Wednesday and the White House has canceled all public events as snow falls across the D.C. area.

All Federal government offices in the D.C. area are closed for the day because of the four to six inches of snow expected to build up throughout the day.

The governments of Prince George's and Montgomery counties and the city of Annapolis in Maryland are also closed for the day.

Virginia governments in Fairfax, Arlington and Charles counties, as well as Alexandria, are also all shut down for the day.

The D.C. area is expected to get between four to six inches of snow throughout the day, with much of it expected to fall during the morning and into the late afternoon. A Snow Emergency was declared in D.C. Wednesday morning.
