Federal agents join murder, arson investigation after 2 found dead in DC house fire

Federal agents have joined the investigations into two murders and arsons in Southeast DC.

Firefighters found a man and a woman dead in a house on Ely Place on Saturday. An autopsy determined that they had been beaten and strangled to death.

A house across the alley had also been set on fire.

Sources tell ABC7 that a young man was kicked out of one of the houses shortly before they went up in flames. And he allegedly carjacked someone hours after the fires at a nearby gas station.

ATF agents scoured the property where the bodies were found. They searched for clues to the killer and the arsonist.

A canine team also walked the neighborhood possibly looking for an accelerant link between the two homes.
