Family of DC woman murdered by ex-boyfriend seeks closure as police search for her body

Pamela Butler's family is seeking closure after she was murdered by her ex-boyfriend in 2009. Police will begin a search for Butler's body on Friday near I-95 in Stafford County, Virginia.

Jose Rodriguez-Cruz previously pled guilty to killing Butler on Oct. 6, 2017. In return for a 12-year sentence, Rodriguez-Cruz pled guilty to second-degree murder and agreed to tell authorities where he put Butler’s body.

Rodriguez-Cruz admitted to killing Butler during an argument in the basement of her home on 4th St. NW in the Brightwood area of D.C.. He then removed her body through a window and drove it away.

Butler was 47 years old when she died and worked for the federal government.
