Mercedes Rouhlac’s video recalls happier times earlier last year with Kerrice Lewis, her ex-girlfriend.

Not last Thursday night when “K,” as Mercedes called her, was found shot in her own car that had been set on fire in an alley near Fort Dupont Park in Southeast D.C.

Neighbors say they heard multiple shots in the alley behind the 800 block of Adrian Street, SE before seeing a raging car fire moments later.

Lewis, 23, who was identified by police as the victim Tuesday, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was found with multiple gunshot wounds in the trunk of the car after the fire was extinguished.

Lewis’ grandfather, William Sharp, said she was “tough,” but never saw an ending for her like the one she had.

Rouhlac said that while she and Lewis were no longer lovers, they were still best friends. “No matter what she still loved me and my son,” Rouhlac said.

As of Wednesday, there are still signs of the fire, including debris from Lewis’ car.
