A former Fairfax County teacher was arrested for having an inappropriate relationship with a student in 2014, the Fairfax County Police Department announced Tuesday.

Timothy Threlkeld, 40, of Manassas, was arrested and charged with four counts of taking indecent liberties with a child in November. Fairfax County police said "an internal communications error resulted in this information just being released today."

In June 2014, a relative of the teen victim reported a suspicious relationship between the victim and Threlkeld while the latter was employed as a shop teacher at Langston Hughes Middle School in Reston.

Police said Threlkeld wasn't arrested and charged until 2017 when more sufficient information when additional information became available.

Threlkeld resigned from his position at the school, effective June 30, 2015. His next court date is scheduled for Aug. 27.
