Driver dead after entering Va. I-95 in wrong direction, hitting tractor-trailer head on

A person is dead after they drove onto Interstate 95 going the wrong direction and hitting a tractor-trailer truck head-on early Thursday morning in Stafford, Virginia State Police report.

According to police, the driver of a van "entered I95 at the Centreport Parkway exit and was headed northbound in the southbound lanes. Just north of the exit the van struck a southbound 2007 Peter built tractor trailer head on the center lane."

The driver of the van was taken to a hospital where he died, police said. The driver of the tractor-trailer was also transported.

It's unclear at this time what caused the driver to enter I-95 in the wrong direction, but officials say the crash is under investigation.

Police say the crash took place at the Centrport Parkway Exit at the 136-mile marker in Stafford County.
