The Dept. of Motor Vehicles in the District is warning its customers about an email scam that attempts to collect money from past due tickets.

According to a press release, customers receive and email from info@localmailserver.info saying that they have a "Notice of Unsatisfied Enforcement Ticket" which directs them to click the link to "Lost Traffic Tickets."

The DMV says its photo enforcement tickets are mailed to customer's addresses based on license plate number and the notice contains information on how to contest the ticket.

The release says the DMV only contacts customers via email if they have registered for their email ticket alert system.
