Deandre Nicholson (Charles County Sheriff's Office)

The death of a 22-year-old man found on the side of the road last month in Charles County has been ruled homicide.

The Charles County Sheriff’s Office said Monday that Deandre Tramonte Nicholson’s death was recently ruled a homicide by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore.

Nicholson, of Waldorf, was located not breathing on the side of the road in the 4500 block of Middletown Road in White Plains a little after 9 p.m. on Jan. 23, according to the sheriff’s office. He was between the hiker/biker trail and Marshall Corner Road when found.

Nicholson was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The citizen who called to report the discovery of Nicholson said he appeared to have been struck by a car, though further investigation showed that was not the case, the sheriff’s office said.

The exact cause of death for Nicholson following the autopsy has not been released because of investigative purposes.

Detectives have since learned Nicholson was seen walking in the North Point area earlier in the day before he was found. At that time, he was wearing a black jacket a red-checkered, pajama-style pants.

Anyone with information about his death is asked to contact Detective J. Elliott at (301) 609-6515. A cash reward of up to $1,000 is being offered.
