If you’re flying out of Reagan National Airport (DCA) this Saturday, you might want to reconsider your travel plans.

A massive military parade organized in honor of the U.S. Army’s 250th anniversary — and coinciding with President Donald Trump’s 79th birthday — will bring major flight delays, traffic backups, and security restrictions to the Washington, D.C. region.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has confirmed that it will temporarily suspend all flight operations at DCA during key parts of the event, specifically between 6:30 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. on Saturday, June 14. This move is intended to ensure safety during military aircraft flyovers and a large-scale fireworks display planned for the evening.

The restrictions are expected to impact at least 116 scheduled flights.

American Airlines — one of DCA’s primary carriers — is adjusting its flight schedule and offering free rebooking options for travelers willing to fly from nearby airports like Washington Dulles (IAD) or Baltimore/Washington International (BWI) instead.

The celebration is projected to cost between $25 million and $45 million, funded by taxpayers. It will feature more than 100 military vehicles, 50 helicopters, and thousands of active-duty soldiers. The parade route will run along Constitution Avenue NW, from 23rd Street near the Lincoln Memorial to 15th Street near the White House.

The event begins with a morning fitness challenge and will feature family-friendly exhibits throughout the day on the National Mall, culminating with the main parade at 6:30 p.m. and a fireworks show at 9:45 p.m.

The scale and timing of the parade, aligned with the president’s birthday, have drawn criticism from lawmakers and advocates who cite the high cost amid calls for cuts to social safety net programs.

DCA officials have advised passengers to check with their airlines for real-time updates and to avoid the area if possible. Parking will be extremely limited, and regional law enforcement expects significant pedestrian and vehicle congestion.

The Pentagon’s north parking lot will be closed starting Friday, June 13, through Tuesday, June 17, to accommodate parade staging and military vehicle deployment.
