WASHINGTON (ABC7) — At the intersection of New York and Florida avenues a lone Wendy’s occupies Dave Thomas Circle, named for Wendy’s founder.
But the DC intersection is considered dangerous by many.
Unveiling her 2020 budget, Mayor Muriel Bowser said she plans to buy that Wendy’s, tear it down, and change the patterns that require traffic to go around it.
“Anybody that’s every traveled that area knows that it’s a failing intersection,” says Councilmember Kenyan McDuffie who represents the area. “And if you can, try to avoid it, because it’s so bad.”
Critics say it’s dangerous for students of nearby schools who almost get hit by cars.
But when ABC7 talked with people in the area about the mayor’s plans, a lot more were opposed than supportive.
Some say they can good food there and some say it’s a landmark that’s been there “forever.”
