D.C. Mayor Bowser honors first responders on 9/11, giving update on Florence

D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser held a press conference to honor first responders on the 17th anniversary of September 11 and gave an update as Hurricane Florence approaches.

Bowser, Councilmember Mary Cheh of Ward 3 and D.C. Fire Chief Gregory Dean were on hand to recognize local police, firefighters and other emergency personnel for their "continued dedication, service, and care" to the D.C. area.

Ahead of the press conference, Bowser issued a state of emergency for D.C.

After the ceremony, Bowser and other D.C. authorities gave an update on how Washington is preparing for the potentially catastrophic Hurricane Florence, which strengthened to a Category 4 storm Monday.

The event is took place at the D.C. fire station at 1018 13th Street, NW.
