DC Humane Rescue Alliance seeking information on dog left outside facility tied in 2 bags
WASHINGTON (WJLA) - The Humane Rescue Alliance in D.C. is seeking information after a dog, who they named Mary, was left outside their New York Avenue adoption center tied in two bags that were placed inside a basket on Wednesday.
Taped to the bags was a note that read, "Dog pass a way. Thanks," HRA tweeted.
But she wasn't dead.
Officials said once Mary was freed from the bags she was still breathing and immediately transferred to an animal hospital. They were unable to save her and she had to be put down later that evening.
“We are asking for the public’s assistance in identifying the person responsible for this heinous act,” HRA’s Vice President of Field Services Chris Schindler stated in a press release. “She was left to suffer and die a painful death. We hope this reward will motivate someone to come forward so that justice can be served.”
A $3,000 reward is being offered to anyone with information by calling (202) 723-5730 (option 1).
