WASHINGTON (ABC7) — Daily new confirmed coronavirus cases in the U.S. have surged 45% over the past two weeks, to a record 7-day average of 86,352, according to data compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
Cases and hospitalizations are on the rise in Maryland and Virginia.
New cases are also going up in D.C.
This week (Oct. 31-Nov. 6), 648 new cases were diagnosed in the District, the most in a week since May 30-June 5, when there were 661.
The most in a single week in the District, though, was earlier in May, when there were 1,241 between May 2 and May 8.
On Thursday, Mayor Muriel Bowser announced a new travel advisory order, which says visitors will need to get tested for COVID-19 72 hours before traveling to the city. Individuals in D.C. longer than three days are asked to get tested three to five days within their arrival.
