Jack Evans is well known as the longest serving councilmember in D.C.’s history and he’s the Chairman of WMATA’s board, but this time his name was brought up at a June meeting for a different reason.

“Case #1101-003.....Jack Evans.this is a formal investigation into whether Councilman Evans violated the council code of conduct,” said a member of the board of ethics. “We have submitted a request to the council for documents and we are working with their general counsel to resolve any issues in regards to that request.”

The Board of Ethics and Government Accountability (BEGA) says they are investigating whether Evans lobbied the council on behalf of a client for a law firm he worked for.

“In addition, we have received complaints that Councilmember Evans made false statements on his most recent financial disclosure statements in connection with his outside activities and that he violated rules regarding outside employment,” said Brent Wolfingbarger, who is the Director of the Office of Government Ethics.

The next BEGA meeting is scheduled for August 2nd.

The Director of Government Ethics could not provide details on when the investigation will wrap up.
