The Fairfax Academy is preparing for a benefit concert.

They are raising money for the local chapter of the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

For one dancer, it’s not just about the performance, but how she’s fighting to find a cure for her mother.

“We share everything, we have an amazing relationship and she is an incredible role model,” Zoe Varacalli said.

There’s nothing stronger than the bond between a mother and daughter.

Jacki and Zoe Varacalli are together through the ups and downs, especially in Jacki’s fight with Multiple Sclerosis.

“It’s obviously very scary to hear that you have that and wonder what your future holds,” Jacki Varacalli said.

Diagnosed in 2001, Jacki has raised three children. Each one having a passion of their own. For Zoe, that passion is dance.

“It’s definitely a time to release the stress and not focus on the health of not only my mom but two of my aunts as well,” Zoe Varacalli said.

Three members of Zoe's family are fighting for their life.

Jacki said she stays strong for her children and husband, hoping to never let MS break down her spirit and health.

Zoe's dance academy will raise money to find a cure for MS at an upcoming benefit concert. Zoe said she has been a support system for her mother all of her life.

“When I was little I would go to all the walks and I would do the little rest stops at the MS walks and I used to cheer them on,” Zoe Varacalli said.

As Zoe dances...Jacki continues to fight.

“They are the reason that I would never put myself in a position where I just give up,” Jacki Varacalli said.

Jacki said she is feeling well. She manages her symptoms with medication, exercise, and a good diet.

Dancing with MS will be held on February 23. The benefit concert will take place at 6 pm at the Fairfax High School auditorium. It's free of charge, but donations are welcome.

Not only will The Fairfax Academy be performing, but many other talented groups from around the DMV will be too.
