COLLEGE PARK, Md. (7News) — Buffalo Bills player Damar Hamlin is in critical condition after suffering cardiac arrest when he collapsed on the field during a game Monday night, the Bills said.
Just before 1:50 a.m. Tuesday, the Bills tweeted, "Damar Hamlin suffered a cardiac arrest following a hit in our game versus the Bengals. His heartbeat was restored on the field and he was transferred to the UC Medical Center for further testing and treatment. He is currently sedated and listed in critical condition."

Hamlin fell moments after being involved in the tackling of Cincinnati receiver Tee Higgins. After the tackle, Hamlin got to his feet but fell backward just seconds later.
7News spoke to cardiologist Dr. Scott Jerome who says from watching that play, it could be a case of blunt force trauma to the chest.
Jerome is a cardiologist practicing at the University of Maryland Medical Center and an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, who serves as Co-Director of Sports Cardiology at UMSOM.

"It's possible that it's deadly," Dr. Scott Jerome said. "Luckily the team was right there and they started CPR. I know they have defibrillators right there and they can shock it pretty quickly so it's not like it happened in the middle of nowhere."
24-year-old Hamlin was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center, where he remains in critical condition.
The NFL announced that the game was postponed, then suspended.
