A cyclist was seriously injured after he was allegedly attacked by another biker on the Washington and Old Dominion Trail (W&OD) Sunday in Loudoun County, Virginia.

Authorities say the man was taken to Lansdowne Campus of Inova Loudoun Hospital and later transported to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he's in stable condition.

According to the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office, the man tried to pass two cyclists on the center line, when another biker traveling the opposite direction extended his arm and "intentionally" struck the victim's bike helmet.

Investigators say the biker who initiated the attack rode off in the direction of Ashburn Village Boulevard.

Officials say the biker they're searching for is 6-foot-tall and wearing a white/light green "Castelli" jersey, a helmet and sunglasses. Officials state his bike is similar to a "time trial bike or a triathlon bike." The bicycle has "aero bars" on the handles and his helmet was an "aero" helmet with a sun shade covering half his face.

Loudoun County Sheriff's are asking anyone with information on the man or incident to call 703-777-1021.
