One man was found dead following a crash involving 23 vehicles, including two tractor-trailers, on Interstate 495 in Fairfax County Saturday morning, according to police.

Virginia State Police say 41-year-old Liem T. Nguyen of Alexandria was driving in the northbound lanes when he spun out of control near the 50-mile marker due to the icy road conditions and struck the jersey walls. He then reportedly "spun back into the travel lanes." Police say Nguyen got out of his vehicle and spoke to another driver shortly before oncoming traffic "began sliding out of control and crashing." The 41-year-old was hit during the 23-vehicle chain-reaction collision that followed and died at the scene.

The crash, which police say occurred around 5:12 a.m., shut down all lanes on I-495 NB near Gallows Road. The interstate has since been reopened. Four people were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital for minor injuries.

Video from the scene showed several cars scattered with major damage.

As of 7:45 a.m. Saturday, more than 40 crashes had been reported around Northern Virginia, according to the Virginia State Police, due to icy road conditions.
