Councilman Vincent Gray visited the Northeast Washington homes of two women forced to evacuate because of a sinkhole.

Angela Green and Willistene Montgomery have been out of their homes since Feb. 18. The sinkhole was reported in the 4900 block of Jay Street, NE.

Both homes used to be part of an apartment complex with a single-boiler before they were converted to single-family homes. As a result, that led to corrosion and a collection of water in the basement that potentially led to the collapse.

Montgomery told ABC7 News on March 6 the city did not provide her any assistance since it forced her to evacuate her home. A sinkhole formed in her backyard.

Montgomery only received help from her church, Peace Lutheran Church, which gave her $500.
