ARLINGTON, Va. (WJLA) - Surveillance video shows several thieves stealing hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of vehicles in just a couple hours.
The crime spree started around 9pm Saturday night at Eagle Automotive on busy Columbia Pike.
“It was just so out of control,” said Raghad Sayyad whose father-in-law owns the dealership. “They honestly took our most high end cars. BMWs. Mercedes.”
The cameras captured the thieves hopping curbs and jumping the counter to snatch more keys.
General Manager Amro Awadallah said the crooks stole 8 vehicles in just two hours. One vehicle, and SUV, was recovered because the thieves ran out of gas.
“We are a family run dealership,” said Awadallah. “We were born and raised around here. So we are part of the community.”
The cameras captured a closeup of a couple of the thieves who also stole two vehicles from Fred’s Executive Automotive on Wilson Boulevard and tried to steal from Merlex Auto Group on North Glebe Road where an alarm sounded.
“It didn’t look like they knew what they were doing. They were just kind of going with it,” said Awadallah. “Our lot kind of got emptied, but we will recover.”
On Monday, ABC 7 obtained new surveillance video from another Arlington car dealership that was targeted by car thieves early Sunday morning.
The general manager at Fred’s Executive Automotive watched the crooks break into the Wilson Boulevard business from the security video app on his cell phone.
“First instinct is put on all the clothes and come straight [to the dealership] to see if I could make it on time,” said Kevin J. who said two guys also stole a car of his lot earlier this year.
Detectives cannot speculate what is being done with the luxury vehicles that were stolen.
A few of the shots show the crooks up close and it does not appear they were wearing gloves.
“Probably going to get caught. If I was you I would be pretty worried right now,” said Kevin J.
Arlington Police said a car that was reported stolen out of Annapolis, MD was found near Eagle Automotive.
