Democrat Jennifer Boysko wins Virginia state Senate seat vacated by Jennifer Wexton

Delegate Jennifer Boysko has declared victory in the Virginia Senate District 33 election to replace Rep. Jennifer Wexton who was elected to Congress in November.

According to the Virginia Department of Elections, Democrat Boysko beat Republican Joe T. May by a 70-30 margin.

With 100 percent of the vote counted, Boysko received 14,762 votes to May’s 6,373.

"I am honored to be elected as the newest Senator from the 33rd district and look forward to continuing the work of now-Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton,” Boysko said in a statement released Tuesday night.

“Together we will work to expand affordable healthcare, improve our schools and roads, build an economy that works for everyone and continue our push for gun-violence prevention."

Senator-elect Boysko says she will be driving to Richmond Tuesday night to be at the legislative session on Wednesday.

First elected to the House of Delegates in 2015, Boysko lives in Herndon.
