Arlington man wins $100,000 in lottery game

ARLINGTON, Va. (WJLA) -- — An Arlington man had to check his lottery ticket seven times before realizing he actually won $100,000 in the Virginia Lottery’s Cash 5 game.

Robert Thomas said he saw the numbers on TV, then saw that someone in Arlington had won the drawing.

Thomas matched all five numbers in the August 7 drawing and won the game’s top prize of $100,000.

He bought his winning ticket at Chanda Market, 5550 Columbia Pike in Arlington. The winning numbers he selected were 5-6-13-16-24.

The chances of winning the $100,000 top prize are one in 278,256, according to valottery.com.

Thomas said his winnings will go towards retirement and college, and his wife has her eye on some jewelry.
