The bone that was found in a barrel submerged in water and sand at a beach in West Ocean City was from an animal bone, not from a human.

In a tweet on Thursday, The Worcester County Sheriff said that the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner had made the determination.

A couple wading in the water on Tuesday found what they thought was a suitcase in the water at Homer Gudelsky Park. It turned out to be a deteriorating wooden barrel. with bones and burned personal effects inside.

Divers pulled the contents from the barrel and discovered the burned bone among burned personal effects.
