WASHINGTON (ABC7) — American Airlines flight 2278 was forced to divert to Charleston Sunday after a medical emergency onboard the aircraft.
A spokesperson for the airline tells ABC7 that the Boeing 737 Max 8 was scheduled to fly from Washington Reagan National Airport to Miami International Airport.
The aircraft instead landed in Charleston just after 10 AM due to an “ill passenger on board.”
According to radio communications from the pilot to air traffic control, the medical emergency was due to a person having a cardiac issue.
The flight left Charleston at 11:39 AM to continue its journey to Miami.
