ALEXANDRIA, Va. (ABC7) — Flames pouring out of a building in Alexandria didn't stop a man from running inside to save an elderly woman and her son Friday.
Several workers nearby spotted the flames at an apartment building on Valley Drive in Parkfairfax. One of the workers, a man called Edwin, realized people were inside and his co-workers say he ran into the building, carried a woman out and guided her son along the way to safety.
"Edwin was coming down the steps. I mean it was unbelievable," Juan Oliver, a Parkfairfax employee, said. "He's a hero."
The woman and her son were rushed to the hospital. Edwin suffered smoke inhalation and was taken to MedStar.
"It's a good thing he was here at the time," Dexter Conaway, another Parkfairfax employee, said. "If he hadn't they would've been trapped. He did the right thing."
