7-year-old hit by truck leaving school bus in Charles County, Maryland, officials say

Authorities say a 7-year-old girl has life-threatening injuries after she was hit by a truck while leaving the school bus in Charles County Tuesday.

The Charles County Sheriff's Office said the incident happened in the 5700 block of Oliver Shop Road in Bryantown around 3:45 p.m. Officials said paramedics treated the girl and then had her medevaced to Children's National Hospital. The fire department also said a 53-year-old was hospitalized due to a panic attack.

School officials said the bus was coming from T.C. Martin Elementary School and may have also had students from a private school on board.

Authorities said the driver stayed at the scene and the crash remains under investigation.
