3 killed in car crash involving dump truck in Maryland

Three people have been killed in a car crash involving a dump truck Tuesday afternoon in Newburg, Maryland.

Police say the victims died at the scene of the accident, and will be identified once a next of kin is notified.

Two unidentified people were taken to an area hospital by Maryland State Police Medevac and U.S. Park Police Aviation. Authorities say five people were traveling in a Lincoln SUV during the crash.

The driver and passenger in the dump involved in the crash have not been identified at this time. Both were taken to the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata, Maryland.

Investigators say the driver of the dump truck was heading along MD Route 234 towards the intersection of Penns Hill Road.

The driver of the SUV was traveling down Penns Hill Road. Police say the vehicle failed to stop and collided with the dump truck.

Officials say Budds Creek Road between Wicomico Ridge Road and Glasva School Road is closed in both directions due to the accident.
