Md. man charged with stabbing, killing his landlord in early hours of the New Year

Police have charged a 19-year-old man with murdering his landlord during an argument in the early hours of the New Year in New Carrollton.

Officers responded to a report of a stabbing at about 3:30 a.m. on January 1 in the 6400 block of Carrollton Court, according to a statement from New Carrollton Police.

Police found Elder Cruz Perez, 34, in his home with multiple stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital and was pronounced dead.

Jose Hernandez-Cardenas, who rented space from Cruz Perez, was arrested at the scene. Police say he stabbed Cruz Perez during an argument.

He is being held on a no-bond status.
