14-year-old boy accidentally shoots, kills hunting guide in Queen Anne's Co., police say

Location of hunting accident in Henderson

A 14-year-old boy accidentally shot and killed his hunting guide during an excursion Saturday in Queen Anne's County, police believe.

Marvin Bowen Coppage, 75, was leading a pheasant and chukar hunt for Schrader's Outdoors Ltd. off Ell Downes Road in Henderson. As he and his dog were flushing a bird from the brush, Coppage was struck by a shotgun blast.

At approximately 4:45 p.m., Coppage was pronounced dead at the scene by Queen Anne's County first responders.

The 14-year-old boy in the hunting party is believed to be the shooter.

Coppage's body was taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy, according to police.

Maryland Natural Resources Police are continuing to gather evidence related to this incident.
