(WENN) - Queen Elizabeth II and her family "loved" having Prince Harry 's fiancee Meghan Markle spend Christmas with them at Sandringham in Norfolk, England, according to the British royal.

The 33-year-old announced his engagement to the American actress at the end of November and weeks later, they joined his grandmother and other members of the royal family for celebrations at Sandringham House during the festive period.

Meghan's inclusion marks the first time someone yet to marry into the royal family has been invited to take part in their Christmas celebrations, and Harry told BBC Radio 4's Today programme they were glad to have her.

"The family loved having her there," he said. "There's always that family part of Christmas (where) there's always that work element there as well, and I think together we had an amazing time.
"We had great fun staying with my brother and sister-in-law and running around with the kids... Christmas was fantastic."

Harry and Meghan stayed with his brother Prince William and his wife Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge at the nearby Anmer Hall in Norfolk during their "fantastic" festive trip, which Meghan really enjoyed.

He added she was getting involved in their big family, something she's not had experience of, as her parents Doria and Thomas divorced when she was six years old.

"I think we've got one of the biggest families that I know of, and every family is complex as well," he continued. "No look, she's done an absolutely amazing job... She's getting in there and it's the family I suppose that she's never had."

On Wednesday, the royal guest-edited the Today programme, which included his interviews with his father Prince Charles and former U.S. President Barack Obama.

When asked if Obama was on the guest list for their wedding at St. George's Chapel at Windsor Castle on May 19, Harry replied, "I don't know about that, we haven't even put the invite or the guest list together, who knows if he's going to be invited or not, I wouldn't want to ruin that surprise."
