Jon Stewart: Michelle Obama talks POTUS and marijuana

Daybreak Daily’s afternoon launch into the pop-culture world finds, well, a tease for a launch, POTUS, a criminal teenager no more, other things, and the mystery music video.

THE DOPE: From none other than Michelle Obama, per E!, “While appearing on Tuesday's The Daily Show to promote her new book, American Grown, the first lady was asked about President Barack Obama's use of marijuana as a youngster, which host Jon Stewart likened to "the script of a Cheech and Chong movie." Not surprisingly, the commander-in-chief's better half kept it classy. "He was like many young people," Obama said, adding that her husband eventually changed his ways in college when "he realized he could do more with his life."

NEW TAKE: On a classic, per the Huffington Post, “"Les Miserables," director Tom Hooper's large-scope follow-up to "The King's Speech," is a star-studded affair, but only one marquee player gets center stage in the film's first teaser: Anne Hathaway.”

FIONA APPLE: This is a great read about the idiosyncratic singer, per the New York Times, “Solitude, mood swings, compulsive actions, catharsis and regeneration: it’s the kind of story Ms. Apple often told about herself in conversation. They are also at the core of the songs that have made her pop’s emblem of trauma, neurosis, seething resentment and self-laceration.”

JESSICA’S BABY: Star offers astonishing revelations, per People, “Since Jessica Simpson and her fiancé Eric Johnson welcomed their daughter Maxwell Drew on May 1, "life has completely changed," Simpson, 31, tells PEOPLE exclusively. "From how I sleep to what I think about, Maxwell has definitely taken over everything!"

MEANWHILE: Gotta lose that baby fat, per TMZ, “Jessica Simpson is now getting paid for being fat -- the singer just announced ... she's the newest spokesperson for Weight Watchers. Jessica made the announcement (Wednesday) on Twitter, writing, "So excited to be a part of the @WeightWatchers family!' Jess don't come cheap neither -- the Weight Watchers deal is reportedly worth $4 million.”

DOC WATSON: A tribute, per the Los Angeles Times, “Doc Watson, who died Tuesday at age 89, never had a hit record, and none of his albums ever went gold. This truth, a shame considering his talent, his influence on the guitar and the beauty of his dynamic baritone, should serve as inspiration to any musician interested in the long game, in making music that endures not because of its shock value or its keen marketplace vision but because within its measured tones lies universal truth.”

BRITNEY SPEARS: She’s beginning to wobble, per Us Weekly, “As one of two new judges on The X Factor, the pop icon, 30, is off to a rocky start. "Doing X Factor may lead her back into meltdown territory," a source recently told Us Weekly. "She gets extremely nervous and anxious. She's hard on herself and not very confident."

HONORED: Noted humanitarian, per the AP, “Bono will present Myanmar opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi with Amnesty International's highest honor when she visits Dublin next month as part of her first international tour in 24 years, the U2 singer and other organizers of an Irish tribute concert announced Wednesday.”

THE ROYALS: Kids on the radar, per Radar, “Prince William and Kate Middleton are not expecting a baby yet, but in a new interview with Katie Couric the future King of England said he is eager to start a family with his beautiful bride even though he’s committed to work. "I'm still trying to decide. It's a really difficult one because I really enjoy my time in the Air Force. But the pressures of my other life are building and fighting them off or balancing the two of them has proven quite difficult," William told Katie on the ABC special The Jubilee Queen.”

THE DISH: Roundtable discussion by an impressive group, per The Hollywood Reporter, “Claire Danes, Mireille Enos, January Jones, Julianna Margulies, Emmy Rossum and Kyra Sedgwick jumpstart THR's annual awards season discussions with uncensored chat about side-boob clauses, breastfeeding and the first time Jones saw herself as "Fat Betty."

A CHAT, PLEASE: Cops want audience with famous couple, per the L.A. Times, “Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department detectives want to interview Justin Bieber and his girlfriend Selena Gomez after a photographer claims he was attacked by Bieber at a Calabasas shopping mall Sunday, but authorities continue to seek additional witnesses.”

AND FINALLY: Today’s mystery music video.
