Teenagers steal car, lead police on chase on I-270 ending in crash near school in Bethesda

A police chase started in the Gaithersburg area and traveled into I-270 and ended less than a mile from Walter Johnson High School.

A car was stolen car and later crashed into a tree and smashed a light pole. Sources told ABC7 News that the driver is 17 years old and alcohol may have played a factor in the accident.

During the chase, the driver lost control and went off the road. Significant damage was caused to a Honda Civic. Airbags were deployed and a windshield was shattered. It appears multiple people were inside the car at the time.

They were transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The crash occurred around 1:30 a.m. Thursday on the corner of Rocksprings Drive and Fernwood Road.

Police have confirmed that an arrest has been made but have not released a name and its unknown how or where the car was stolen.
