A 17-year-old student at Springbrook High School has been charged with possession of an unloaded handgun on school property.

Police say Solomon Henderson had a gun and an empty magazine inside his gym bag while at the Silver Spring school.

Henderson is being charged as an adult for the offense, according to investigators.

On Tuesday, Springbrook High School staff and security received information that Henderson had a gun and it was found by a school resource officer.

Montgomery County Police say the gun was legally purchased and is registered to Henderson's father.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
