WASHINGTON (WJLA) – Police are searching for two people who shot at police and EMS workers in Southeast D.C. early Friday morning.

The incident began at the intersection of 4th St. and Morse St. NE just after midnight when an on-duty EMS captain saw two cars exchanging gunfire.

The captain and an EMS responder pursued one of the vehicles when the shooters turned and fired at the EMS workers, according to the Metropolitan Police Department (MPD).

A police chase ensued and U.S. Park Police were called in to assist with backup, but the shooters escaped from their car near the intersection of 13th St. and I St. SE in the Potomac Gardens area. The shooters fired at police once more before fleeing on foot.

Police said there were no injuries. The investigation is ongoing.
