WASHINGTON (ABC7) — Friday night and early Saturday morning were busy for the Metropolitan Police Department as they responded to five shootings that injured 8 people and killed one in less than three hours.
According to Metropolitan Police, the first shooting happened in the 2400 block of Martin Luther King Ave., SE around 8:40 p.m. Friday. Police said the man shot was conscious and breathing, and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said they're looking for the shooter who's described as a 40-year-old black man with a medium complexion wearing a white hat, black hooded sweatshirt with Army cargo pants armed with a gun.
A second shooting happened in the 3700 block of Hayes St., NE around 9:28 p.m. Police arrived to the scene and found 31-year-old Joseph Andre Robinson unconscious with a gunshot wound. Police notified media around 11 p.m. that Robinson died from his injuries. ABC7 News reporter Richard Reeve said police were still searching the area for more information.
Police said the third shooting took place in the 1700 block of East Capital St., NE. around 9:57 p.m. MPD confirmed that two female juveniles, one juvenile male, and one adult male were shot at this location. Police said all of the injuries were non-life-threatneing.
The fourth shooting happened on the 2500 block of Pomeroy Rd., SE. around 11:31 p.m. Police said the unidentified victim was conscious and breathing.
A fifth shooting happened on the 3600 block of Hayes St., NE. around 12:06 a.m. Saturday, police confirmed. This incident was one block from Friday's homicide two hours earlier. When police responded to the shooting shortly after midnight they also returned to the homicide scene on the 3700 block of Hayes St and found an eighth shooting victim there. Police said it's unknown if the two Hayes Street shootings are connected.
Police said the the victim shot in the 3600 block of Hayes St., NE is conscious and breathing.
