A man was arrested Tuesday morning in Fort Belvoir after police said he pushed and threatened to kill officers who came to speak with him.

Roger Merritt, 57, of Convent, New Jersey, was arrested and charged with two counts of assault on law enforcement and disorderly conduct.

According to Fairfax County police, officers were called to the 9100 block of Belvoir Woods Parkway around 10:22 a.m. for a man making inappropriate gestures who may have also assaulted someone. When officers arrived, Merritt refused to leave and pushed the officers.

As officers worked to arrest him, he resisted, spit in one officer’s face and said he would kill them.
