WASHINGTON (ABC7) — DC Police are currently on the scene of an investigation after a 12-year- boy was shot and left unconscious in Northeast DC on Thursday.
Authorities were called to the 4400 block of Ponds St., NE just shortly after 7 p.m. for reports of a shooting.
Upon arrival, authorities found a juvenile male shot and unconscious. The boy is said to be unresponsive.
"He is in critical, but stable condition," according to Chief Peter Newsham.
Neighbors tell ABC7 News that that they also heard gunshots around the same time on Wednesday night.
“I can think of three babies that have been shot so far this year, and in each case, they were the unintended target. We had a little baby over at the bus stop...on Minnesota and Pennsylvania, we had a 6-year-old the other night who was in the back seat of a car..in the 2400 block of Alabama and now we have a 12-year-old kid who should be...at home enjoying his evening and is at one of our local hospitals, struggling, because he has been shot. It has got to stop,” said Newsham.
Police say they found dozens of shell casings, following the shooting.
Authorities are asking for the public to be on the lookout for a silver vehicle with four occupants, with one subject wearing an orange hoodie.
