FAIRFAX, Va. (ABC7) — Five Fairfax County students are facing nine child porn charges and one charge for unlawful filming tied to a sexting case in which the students traded naked pictures of female students.
The news comes as some school district leaders are pushing for more education about the sexting problem that plagues schools across the country.
Currently, FCPS only has 8th grade courses that discuss sexting.
The proposal would add courses at the 6th-, 7th- and 9th-grade levels. Each year the topics would get more mature.
The instruction would also warn students about the consequences of sexting, such as the 10 felony charges the five students are now facing in the latest case.
District leaders say parents can opt their student out of any of the courses.
A final vote on adding the new courses will be held on June 20.
