DNA hit leads to arrest of 16-year-old boy in Charles County home invasion, sexual assault
LA PLATA, Md. (ABC7) -- A 16-year-old boy has been arrested for a December home invasion and sexual assault in Nanjemoy, Md., detectives say.
Terrell Shawan Carroll of Nanjemoy was arrested Thursday after DNA evidence collected by forensic investigators linked him to the case, according to a statement from the Charles County Sheriff's Office.
On December 29 at approximately 8 p.m., a young male broke into a house on Port Tobacco Road, police say. He told the homeowner, who was home alone, that he had a gun and demanded money. The homeowner says she complied with his demand and then he sexually assaulted her.
The assailant then fled the scene and the woman called police.
Investigators collected forensic evidence and had it analyzed. A positive DNA hit linked Carroll to the assault. Detectives arrested Carroll at his home.
Carroll has been charged as an adult with attempted rape, home invasion, burglary, and related offenses.
