A police investigation was underway Wednesday morning after a man was shot multiple times and found inside a car on the ramp to northbound Interstate 295 from Eastern Avenue shortly before 7 a.m., D.C. police said.

Authorities confirmed his injuries were not fatal and he was listed as "conscious and breathing."

DC police say they were notified after gunshots were heard starting in the 4200 block of East Capitol Street, NE and ending at the I-295 ramp where the car was found.

A lookout was issued for two black males, one wearing a gray sweatshirt and another wearing a black shirt.

ABC7's Suzanne Kennedy reports from the scene that a Silver Mercedes E320, that has since been towed, was the focus of the investigation.

The 4200 block of East Capitol Street, NE and the northbound ramp to I-295 from Eastern Avenue were shut down Wednesday morning as police investigated the shooting.
