WASHINGTON (SBG) — In a rare move, the White House canceled its daily coronavirus task force briefing on Monday. But hours later, Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany tweeted that the president would hold a news conference after all.
Now, there are more mixed messages between what comes out of Washington and what's seen around the country. Businesses likegyms, hair salons, bowling alleys and tattoo parlors opened in Georgia, while some beaches in California were packed over the weekend. People are still concerned if that's safe.
“Do your best to stay away from people, but you're always going to be too close to them I guess," a California beach-goer said. "I mean I don't know. They say six feet. Maybe people are six feet? I don't know, it's here and there."
States from east to west have been loosing restrictions.
“I don't understand the rush," Atlanta resident Alexandra Caldwell said. "I think restaurants can benefit from us ordering out and still enjoy the food while we're protecting each other.”
In New York, Gov. Andrew Cuomo says telework and telemedicine show how they can and will adapt. He hopes to open low-risk businesses upstate on May 15, but there's still concern with how to clean and sanitize an entire public transportation system on a daily basis.
"Life is gonna be different, but in this case, different can mean better," Cuomo said.
We went through 9/11 and we are better and safer as a society for it. DHS was formed on the federal side.
As for the federal government, there has been a change there as well. President Donald Trump canceled his daily task force briefing Monday, showing a growing frustration with media over a series of tweets, even asking about the purpose of having them when the media asks nothing but hostile questions.
Last Friday, Trump didn't take any questions after being questioned for theories on how to disinfect a patient's body.
Some states are planning to reopen against White House guidance. In Iowa, officials will relax rules despite warnings that they may not hit their peak for another several weeks.
