ALEXANDRIA, Va. (ABC7) — 7 On Your Side has heard from staff from one hospital in the DMV saying it is critically low on N-95 masks for doctors and nurses.
Doctors, nurses and other medical professionals are on the front lines battling the coronavirus, but 7 On Your Side is hearing about strong concerns from insiders at medical facilities:
One person emailed 7 On Your Side saying "The hospital is not helping with the critically low level of N-95 masks. Instead, the ER doctors are scouring the internet for masks and personal protective equipment."
We took that question to Dr. Patrice Harris, the President of the American Medical Association (AMA). "We certainly do not have the equipment necessary to combat this pandemic,” says Harris.
The AMA is asking the feds to create a new database to help track medical supplies on a national level.
"We urge the administration to develop a tracking system, so we know where the equipment is. We know who has what so we can get the equipment to those with the greatest need,” adds Harris.
The local hospital in question is not responding to 7 On Your Side's request for an interview or our questions which could mean two things. Either they are too busy, or they don’t want to answer our questions.
