WASHINGTON (ABC7) — Mayor Muriel Bowser will extend the state of emergency in D.C. into October in response to the pandemic. On Wednesday, health officials reported 80 new COVID-19 cases and three virus deaths in the past 24 hours.
The 80 new cases in the District is the most since June 4. News of the cases and three virus deaths come after the city reported five straight days of no COVID-19 related deaths.
"We will extend it and we will likely extend it through what the Council has already authorized and that's October, early October I think," Bowser said during her Wednesday news conference.
Health officials also reported that hospitalizations increased slightly overnight.
