Opinion: Democrats have no credible reason to oppose Judge Brett Kavanaugh
This week Senate Democrats, yet again, called on Republicans to suspend the confirmation hearings for supreme court nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.
Their newest line of attack? Democrats want to stop the high court vacancy from being filled because the president’s former attorney Michael Cohen plead guilty to several criminal counts, including campaign finance violations. This attempted blockade is a disingenuous non-sequitur that laughs in the face of the senate confirmation process.
At this point, this is the equivalent of being invited to interview for a job you are highly qualified for but you’re being kept waiting in the lobby of the office building until some of the board members finish shouting about how much they wished their cousin was up for the job instead.
It doesn’t seem to matter who the president nominates to this seat.
What senate democrats appear to really want is for the president to abandon his constitutional authority and allow them to dictate who he picks.
Guess what? That is not going to happen.
Here’s the Bottom Line: What’s next? Senate democrats will try to block the confirmation of Judge Kavanaugh because they do not like the weather?
Democrats have no tangible reason to oppose this highly qualified pick—they need to stop their childish games, do their jobs and provide advice and consent on our president’s Supreme Court nominee.
