I spoke to Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson about the benefits of tax reform that the people he serves every day are experiencing. Here’s what he had to say:

SECRETARY CARSON: The tax cut and job plan preserved low-income housing tax credits in their entirety. That’s tremendous. Also created opportunity zones

BORIS: I was going to ask you about that...

CARSON: An amazing vehicle for getting unrealized capital gains invested into areas of economic need. Exactly. It’s a win-win situation because the investors can make significant money.

BORIS: That’s the opportunity zone program?

CARSON: That’s the opportunity zones. And these areas that are traditionally neglected suddenly have a lot of capital pouring into them

And we’re doing it in conjunction with the municipalities that we’re working in, trying to create holistic communities.

BORIS: How have you seen tax reform impact directly? Have you seen folks who may need less help since the tax reforms has been put in place?

CARSON: Absolutely. Recognize that it’s not just the money you’re saving. It’s also benefits.

You look at the job market. You look at the fact more people are looking for jobs now than there are jobs now this is an absolutely wonderful time for economic expansion.

Here’s the bottom line: As Ben Carson just told us, the benefits of the historic tax cuts go way beyond putting more money into the pockets of Americans. Look for Republicans to continue to focus on all of the positive results from tax reform in the run up to the November midterms.
