Working Woman: Restoring health with Yoga and Pilates (Photos/Video)
WASHINGTON (ABC7) —
This week's Working Woman, Mariska Breland, says Yoga and Pilates saved her life. And she wants to do the same for others.
Breland, founder of Fuse Pilates, is the picture of health and strength as she assists clients at her studio, in Northwest D.C. But in 2002 she had numbness in her hands, tingling and double vision. It was Multiple Sclerosis.
Although doctors told her to take it easy, Breland learned the more active and fit she was, the better she felt. Yoga and Pilates helped the most.
Breland left her job in corporate communications and along with her business partner, Roxanna Hakimi, opened Fuse Pilates, in Dupont Circle, and a second studio in Logan Circle in 2014. She also teaches workshops all over the world on how to treat neurological conditions through exercise.
